A rare, but still fascinating find
It is believed to be the earliest known fossil of the extinct animal, a Tyrannosaurus rex tooth that dates back to the early Cretaceous period.
The specimen was unearthed by a local farmer in western Germany.
The tooth was discovered in a deep pit on the bank of the Oder River, in the western state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and has now been examined by experts at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig.
“It is the earliest fossil of a dinosaur known from the Cretzian period, and this is the oldest known specimen of a Tyrannosaur tooth, according to scientists,” the institute’s research head, Dr Georg Rehm, told Al Jazeera.
“This specimen is the first fossil from the Triassic period that we know of.”
In addition to the fossil, researchers also found other bones and teeth in the pit, including an articulated jaw.
A new species of dinosaur is the result of this excavation and it is known as a Tyrannotitan, which means “one who lives in the middle” in Latin.
Tyrannotitan is the only known dinosaur from the same time period that has an articulated lower jaw and has a neck that can support a neck, and its teeth are very sharp.
Its teeth are also very strong, but not so sharp that it would have been difficult for a person to smash through a wall with them.
“Tyrants tend to have extremely long necks, which can be difficult to smash up with a hammer,” said Rehm.
The new specimen was the result, in part, of the painstaking research of two scientists working on the excavation: Dr Markus Giebel from the Maxplan Institute for Natural History and Dr Christiane Schäfer from the University of Leipziger.
“We knew the exact position of the fossil in the mud and in the bottom of the pit,” Giebrich told Alja-Tag.
“It is important to make sure the position is stable and the depth is stable, and that the structure is stable.
We used a dynamometer, which measures the forces that the body has to bear, to measure the strength of the bones and to see how strong they are.”
The team worked in tandem with the local authorities, as well as the regional research centre in the state of Lower Saxony.
“All these factors gave us the idea that we would find this fossil,” said Gieblich.
“The position was stable and stable enough to be possible, so we did not have to worry about the structure being unstable.
The team also found the teeth of the T-rex, which is the second oldest known dinosaur to be discovered in Germany.”
The T-Rex is the biggest dinosaur known to have lived,” Rehm added.”
In the past, it has been found in a few places, but now we have a much larger area to work with.
“Rehm said that while the discovery of the first dinosaur in the area, the Triodontosaurus, is significant, he was particularly excited by the discovery that the animal had a neck and had a tail.”
It has also been found that T-Rex is an early member of the family of dinosaurs, which also means it is one of the early members of the group that we call Tyrannosaurs.””
That means that we have the earliest evidence of a long neck among dinosaurs.”
“It has also been found that T-Rex is an early member of the family of dinosaurs, which also means it is one of the early members of the group that we call Tyrannosaurs.”
A dinosaur skeleton found in the fossil pit at the Odenkirchen site in Mecklinburg-Vienna, Germany, dated to the late Cretzesaurus period (ca.
65 million years ago)The fossil remains were discovered in the early 1990s, and the researchers believe they are the earliest specimens of Tyrannosauroids to have been found.
The discovery of Tyrannosaurus is significant because it is the third known specimen from the region, following the Triodsaurus from Germany and the Gobi-Tyrantosaurus from China.
“One of the reasons that we believe this is a Triassic dinosaur is because it has a unique head shape, which suggests that it was bipedal,” said Georg Rehme, who led the team.
“Because it was not a quadrupedal dinosaur, it is also interesting that the head is not flat like the head of a bird, like the modern-day birds.”
Rehme explained that this type of fossil was found in an area that had never been visited by fossils before.
“So, in this area, there were no deposits from other dinosaurs,” he told Aljazeera.
“There are fossils from other groups of dinosaurs like the T. rex, but it is not known whether this dinosaur had any other relatives.”
If we find the remains of Tyrannosaurs that were a little more primitive,
